IT'S A BACK ON TRACK MONDAY!

Wow, there's no doubt holidays, such as Mother's Day are wonderful days in each of our lives. Isn't it great to be able to enjoy a "special event" day and know exactly how to get right back on track to your healthy eating pattern the next day? It sure is for me. This morning I had the following for breakfast:

1/2 of a Whole Wheat English Muffin

1-2 teaspoons of Smuckers All Natural Peanut Butter

1/2 sliced banana

Sprinkle of honey

2/3 rds cup of Plain Axelrod Non Fat Yogurt with Splenda

10 blueberries mixed into yogurt

I did manage to attempt to get outside early to walk/jog but because it was already 9:00 a.m. I had to cut it short with just one lap due to the heat. I just ate breakfast and I will do my 30 minutes of Pilates this morning. I am going to try to get some extra cardio in today inside by doing about 20 minutes of cardio by Denise Austin. I'll choose two of her 10 minute routines. Later this evening when it's cooler, I will get my full 2 miles plus in with my walking/jogging routine.

I have to remember to drink water throughout the day in the proper quantities. That's an ongoing challenge!

Alright, I'm on a roll of starting out Monday, after Mother's Day on a good foot. I had a half of a Whole Wheat turkey sandwich with 1 teaspoon of Olive Oil Mayo by Kraft. I had about 1 cup of broccoli/cauliflower with 1 T of Ken's Lite Raspberry Walnut. I had one cup of my Split Pea Soup that I defrosted late this morning.

I've been working on my blog and I am going to get about 20 minutes of Denis Austin's Personal Training DVD in this afternoon. I'm going to do the light upper body dumbbell routine and the lower body medium intensity routine. By the way this is a fabulous DVD and you can gear each 10 minute segment according to how you first feel and how you will eventually progress.

Yeah, Sunday wasn't such a great eating day. Way too much spinach and artichoke dip, which is solid saturated fat from four (count 'em, FOUR!) kinds of cheeses. But as you said, it's a special day. Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary so unfortunately full "Back on Track" day for me won't be until Wednesday.

But the big difference in me now is I know how to get back on the wagon. And now that I know that I have the self-discipline to stop the backslide and get back on track, I don't look on every holiday or special occasion as an excuse to overeat, or worse, to call myself a failure and go back to my old ways of eating.

I think that's what they mean by it not being a "diet," but a lifestyle change. You learn how to accommodate those occasions where you know you're going to eat off-plan. You stop looking at those occasions as reasons to throw in the towel. You know they're just part of the flow and the day after you'll go right back on plan, which has become your "normal" way of eating. I can't believe it took me so long to learn that!

Yes Sharon, I feel the same way, you are so right. It shocks me when I stop and think about how many times I threw the towel in after being on a so called "diet" or continuing a binge after a "special event" day. We must remember, just because we enjoy a "special event" day, does not mean we have to continue the pattern for the following three days or week for that matter. Stop it after that day or days if things fall back to back or if it's a vacation type situation.

You know, if you stop and think about it, maybe the reason we failed repeatedly, like so many others is probably because we didn't have a healthy eating pattern set up in the first place. You know, one where we could automatically fall back on each day. It was either try to find a new "diet" or eat too little in order to hurriedly try to lose weight.

Well, we know that's not smart; there's no fast way to undo things, we simply have to establish new great overall habits.

Yes, it really does come down to a lifestyle change. We can always enjoy our "off track" times of eating in our lives! It's just a matter of getting back onboard shortly after!

I think what's happened with me is my healthy eating pattern (aka my "diet") has become the norm. It's the times that I eat off my pattern that are abnormal. So when I go back on track, I'm going back to eating the ways I always do, rather than going on a "diet." That mindset change has made all the difference in the world to me. I'm not on a "diet." This is just the way I eat now.

Yes, that is so true. My healthy eating patterns are the norm now also. It's no longer a battle with weight loss. I won by changing my eating and fitness patterns in life. I strive each day to maintain the balance I've incorporated into my daily life. No one is perfect but I plan and I am keenly aware when I choose to eat off track. I don't feel guilt but I am aware and that's a good thing.
